Glam Slam: So Long Stilettos!

April 5, 2013

Fashion’s ultimate icon Sarah Jessica Parker just revealed that she can’t wear heels anymore, on doctors’ orders. Say what? Hard to imagine the Manolo Blahnik/Christian Louboutin/Jimmy Choo loving star in, gasp, FLATS instead of her signature and beloved heels! Of course, SJP can make anything look stylish.

I feel her pain though, literally. After wearing heels nearly every day for years, I damaged my foot to the point where I was also told by a doctor- no more! All of a sudden the shoe department was torture. It was like being a kid in a candy store and not being able to eat most of the goodies. Most gorgeous shoes you see in the shoe department are sexy, fierce heels so all of a sudden there were less choices and less temptation for me. The few times I’ve had to wear heels, like the Oscars, it was awful and by the end of the night I was limping.

But boy, do I miss heels. I feel like they were part of my identity. I am used to flats at this point, but you can only wear ballet flats so often and even they aren’t perfect. My doctor recently told me that the flats I was wearing do not offer enough support and I should try one of those “comfortable” shoe brands you see in the malls. I think I would rather go barefoot!

It would be nice to at least have the option of wearing heels every now and then for special occasions. But maybe with a high profile, high style client like SJP, designers like Christian Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik will start adding more gorgeous flat options to their collections. There’s hope yet!
